Portfolio: Grunge Style Web Design & Blog design for Wordpress-Designers.com

A LOOK AT OUR RECENT WORK FOR A NEW PREMIUM WORDPRESS THEME SITE

We’ve been working closely with www.wordpress-designers.com to build up some new and exciting themes for them which will be ready for release in the near future. We soon realised that we needed a more convenient way of displaying the themes and their features, so it was decided that we create a new style for the website, which included us making and designing the homepage and store pages, as well as a blog section.

Goals for the design

Our main goal was to have an open clean design that could easily display the various features and functions of the Wordpress Themes. As always the design had to be as easy to navigate as possible, and we wanted their to be a focus on the featured theme.

The Details

The Icons

We used icons where we felt it was needed, we used some icons from the beautiful Crystal Project Icon set, which has some of the best icons I’ve ever seen, & the fact they are free is amazing.

The Grunge touch

As you can probably see there are hints of grunge in the design, with the use of watercolour brushes and some other grunge brushes which we applied lightly onto the design. We will be sharing some of our favourite Grunge brushes etc in a post we will be publishing when we fully launch the blog next week, so you can get some similar brushes there.

The Fonts

We’ve used quite large fonts in a lot of places also. The big font style is something which is quite popular in 2008. It is easy to see why, the large font size is a great way to show off a great typeface you have. We felt the roundness of the font helped add some real class and style to the design, so overall a nice blend between corporate & the slightly grungey look.

Use of Colours

The colours work really well in my opinion, I think there is a nice contrast between dark and light which helps draw your eye down to the main content once you’ve had a read of the featured theme. There’s a woody & papery feel to it I think which helps build some faint texture. Overall we were happy with the design and hope that it can help add to the success of Wordpress-Designers which will soon feature some of our own themes for sale. (More Updates on this soon)

    Hey Liam,

I’m in the midst of purchasing a premium WordPress theme from Magnus Jepson. But I’m sort of like your design, I’m not too sure if I should ask you to quote me something similar like your design.

    What do you say?

@ Blog for Beginners, To be completely honest if you feel you’re capable of modifying and changing the design yourself the there is nothing wrong with Wordpress Themes. And it can work out cheaper. You may want to wait for us as we have a few Premium Wordpress themes on the way soon you can see previews of these here:

I agree with you but I’d rather buy a premium theme and do a little bit modification.

Yes I love the Sketch’d theme as I have said, if you remember, I’m partial to anything with the Grunge touch.

Email me the details, will you?
